Grand Canyon Railway Steam Engines gone ?

My toddler loves to see this video at least 2 to 3 times a week.I was looking for some info on how to got to Williams AZ and see the Grand Canyon on this train and my search brought up this discussion on the Grand Canyon Railway in a forum called Train Board

I was hoping to go there with the family suring the Christmas holidays. Have you been on this train ? If you have visited the Grand Canyon - how was your experience? What advice do you have for family travel to the Grand Canyon?

Hi Shashi - the Grand Canyon Railway is a historic train trip to the Grand Canyon offered daily (except for Christmas and New Year's) from Williams, Arizona. It is wildly popular around Christmas time, so you'll need to make reservations pretty darn quick if you really want to do it.

A couple of things to know before you commit: 1. Williams is 60 miles due South of the Grand Canyon, so you won't actually see the canyon from the train. You won't see it until you get to the park and get off the train. 2. It takes 2 hours and 15 minutes - each way - to make the trip, and you have about a 3.5 hour layover in the park. By car, the trip could be made in 1 hour each way. 3. At Christmas time it will be cold, possibly snowing at the canyon, so dress accordingly.

I think if your child is into this video, he/she will probably enjoy the train. They do a good job of keeping the children entertained on the trip with cowboy characters, a mock train robbery, music, etc. But the attraction of the train is the train itself and not the scenery you see from it.

Hope that helps. If you'd like to read some reviews, I'd recommend visiting TripAdvisor.com or Yelp.com.
