The New California Pizza Kitchen in Gaithersburg

Have you been to the Rio recently ? The place has changed. Located conveniently off Exit 9 off 270 its become a cool place for family outings. The new entrants to the already existing long list of restaurants is the California Pizza Kitchen. Some of the other restaurants are the Red Rock Cafe, Potbelly Sandwiches.

I am sure George Lukas realizes what the "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" has done to the restaurant business in Gaithersburg. Looking at the crowd in the restaurants it looked like "family" was in again. Mums, Dads, Grandpas, Grandmas and kids were all together again seeing movies together and remembering their own experiences from 27 years ago with the first Star Wars.

The California Pizza kitchen was busy but the hostess was un harried and very pleasant. The entrance to the "CPK" is on the lakeside. The doodr that you see whan you come from the parking lot has the words "Takeout" so you know that this door is intended for 'Takeout'.

We ordered 'Sesame ginger chicken' as an appetizer. I would highly recommend this. It is not as spicy as the menu makes it to be.

The CPK Special - " BBQ Pizza" is our all time favorite. For dessert the "key lime" pie is great. One idea is to invert the pie and eat it with the crust first. :)

They have their service philosophy right. They actually listen to you and dont appear unhappy because the restaurant is so crowsdd and they have to be running all the time.

Its a great place to go. If you do go say hello to the manager Caroline.
